Former editor-in-chief of CLEO and DOLLY magazines Lucy Cousins has followed her passion for fitness with website Urban Sweat, launching at the end of May.
Cousins departed publishing with the closure of CLEO earlier this year, focusing her efforts on launching a digital hub that she describes to Mumbrella as a “cross between Trip Advisor and Time Out but purely for fitness events and classes.”
The focus will initially be on Sydney- and Canberra-based events, with plans to expand to Melbourne and Brisbane by the year’s end. The website will house three different segments – Urban Moves, Urban Eats and Urban Looks – as well as a reviews offerings for readers.
“Essentially it is a newsletter-based website. A free newsletter will go out once a week which will talk about all the things you can do that weekend (and beyond) that are health and fitness related,” says Cousins. She also comments of her inspiration: “The idea came to me when I was going through my inbox. I was getting all these great emails about what’s happening in Sydney but the main events I was clicking on were health and fitness ones and I wished there was a service that just had health and fitness events.”
Joining Cousins on the Urban Sweat team will include Leda Ross as fashion director, Sarah Brooks-Wilson as beauty director, naturopath Hayley Stockbridge, dietitian Susie Burrell, psychologist Gemma Cribb, fitness expert Alex Georgeou, and yoga expert Pixie Levinson.
