bdBLOG: Miss Average

I always love reading statistics that show I’m in line with the Average Joe Blow - especially when it comes to things like beauty appointments. It’s reassuring to know that friends aren’t discussing me behind their back, trying to decide who best to confess to me that I’ve got it all wrong.

A study in the US conducted by Pivot Point International found that more than 50 per cent of consumers interviewed visit a hair salon six or more times a year, while men are more likely than women to visit their hairdresser 10 or more times per year.

Now, I might not be one of those people that books their next appointment when leaving the last, but taking a look back through my calendar from 2011 – I’m surprisingly diligent at going to the hairdresser’s at least every six weeks (got to love the search function on the iPhone calendar!).

That slots me in with those respondents that visited the salon over six times but not over 10 for the year. I’m perfectly normal. Miss Average.

Some unsurprising statistics from the study include the fact hair shaping and styling are the most popular services purchased by both men and women. It was also revealed that more than 40 per cent of women surveyed receive hair colouring services compared to 16 per cent of men interviewed.

While I never book a hair appointment to solely give my hair a trim – regular trips to the hairdresser for my colour means I’m often at the right place at the right time for getting a little snip added to the mix. How many times do you go to the hairdresser in a year?
