bdBLOG: Rub a dub-dub

To help celebrate the launch of Marrakesh Oil & Coconut range, beauty media were invited to attend Fleur de Lys Medispa in Woollahra to enjoy their Oriental Hammam Ritual.

The treatment embraces the ancient traditions of the Orient, with your body being covered in traditional black soap followed by a thorough scrubbing on the heated Hammam table. Next, your skin is nourished with soothing Rhassoul clay from the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, and then finished off with traditional Argan oil mixed with essential oils.

The last time I was given a good scrubbing” was in Turkey, where a buxom local lady proceeded to destroy all the hard work I’d been doing on building up my tan. While I felt brilliant, I was a little sad to be walking out fifty shades whiter than when I’d entered.

Being the middle of winter, I had absolutely no tan to speak of before heading to Fleur de Lys on the weekend. With that worry out of the way, I was looking forward to sitting back and lapping up the relaxing cultural experience.

First up, I was taken into a beautiful wooden steam room where oriental oils and perfumes as well as the sounds of running water and traditional music soon had me drifting off into a blissful half-awake-half-asleep state.

I was then taken into another room where the bathing begun. While it might seem like a strange idea to be bathed by another woman, the concerns soon leave you when their expert hands begin soothing your skin. Just think of it as getting a body massage – bliss.

After receiving the exfoliation, clay treatment and oil application, it was unfortunately time to step out of the orient and head back to reality. While the experience may have lasted an hour, five days later and my skin is still reaping the benefits with a soft and smooth finish.
