bdBLOG: Slithering success

While most people run and hide when they see a snake, it’s a whole other story for , which is incorporating real snakeskin into its latest nail treatment.

Bio Sculpture nail artists actually embed the naturally shed snakeskin onto the customer’s nails by putting it into gel lacquer and then sealing with a flexible finishing layer of Bio Sculpture Gel.

Fascinated by this new treatment, I headed into the Bio Sculpture offices to see firsthand the results (amazing – was a bit apprehensive at first – but the nails look incredible) and to find out more about the new snake mani/pedi from Bio Sculpture international education head Vanessa Venter.

Why are snakeskin nails so popular?

They have been very popular as snakeskin is huge this season with snakeskin and animal prints featuring everywhere. I also think it has created a WOW” factor, people can’t believe that we can embed real snakeskin into the gel... and of course the natural pattern of the skin looks so great on the nails and adds another dimension to fashion nail art.

How did you come up with the idea of using snakeskin for manicures and pedicures?

It was actually created by Terri Silacci, a Bio Sculpture educator/nail artist in the USA. Her children came home one day with some shed snakeskin and wondered how she could transfer this unique pattern onto nails. Using the flexibility of Bio Sculpture gel she was able to completely embed the snakeskin and create the snakeskin sensation nail art.

Has this trend taken off?

Yes, people have really been amazed and intrigued by this new technique, as it has never been done before.

Are some people scared/apprehensive of putting snakeskin on their nails?

Yes, at first most women are scared at the thought of real snakeskin on their nails (I was), but once you see it on your nails it just looks amazing.

What is the next big thing coming up for Bio Sculpture?

Now that we can embed snakeskin, the options are really endless. We have been experimenting with feathers and are about to release feather feature nail art for summer, where we embed the cutest feathers into the gel.
