Brandefy (the app helping beauty enthusiasts find affordable alternatives to cult-favorite products) has released its top beauty brands and product categories from July through mid-August 2022, according to WWD.
Coming in at number one is Charlotte Tilbury, who has reigned as Brandefy’s top-searched beauty brand since July 2021. While it ranked as number nine in January 2021, Brandefy founder and chief executive officer, Meg Pyrde, said searches for the brand have since increased by 255%, pushing it to the number-one spot in July 2021.
Vitamin C products have also been the site’s most searched beauty category since January 2021, despite other skincare categories dropping from the rankings with post-pandemic shoppers returning to cosmetics.
Supergoop increased in search volume by 22% since July 2021, and brands such as Glossier, Urban Decay and Nars (who were previously in the top 10) have seen declines of 44%, 44% and 23% respectively, during the same period.
Foundation reached the top 10 in July, for the first time since before COVID-19. Similarly, mascara joined the top ranks for the first time since 2020. Meanwhile, searches for sunscreen decreased by 21% vs. last year, leaving it clinging to the tenth spot.
