How Australia compares in the global price of beauty

The 2017 Beauty Price Index has been released, offering an in-depth view of the average prices for services, cosmetic procedures and beauty products – from haircuts and breast augmentation to perfume and lipstick – in 50 countries globally.

The study was conducted by Latin American marketplace comparison site Linio. The results showed several Asian and Latin American countries at the top of the index, with Vietnam as the most affordable country overall for beauty products and services.

At the other end of the scale were regions with high costs of living, including Northern Europe, Australia, and the USA. Venezuela was found to be the most expensive country overall, largely due to the country’s inflation crisis and the exchange rate from the Venezuelan bolívar to the US dollar.

Australia ranked 45th in the list overall; with the cheapest countries being Vietnam in first place; India in second; South Africa third; and Thailand ranking fourth.

For comparison, a haircut in Vietnam averages $6.73; whereas a haircut in Australia averages $38.64. Australia also ranks #37 for mascara, #41 for breast augmentation and #36 for anti-ageing creams.
