According to an article by WWD, Mariano Puig Planas, former president and owner of Spanish fragrance and fashion company, Puig, has sadly passed away at age 94.
Working as president of Puig for more than 30 years, he spearheaded its international expansion and was responsible for acquiring the distribution rights for Max Factor, Paco Rabanna and Caroline Herrera, which are still distributed to this day.
Puig was born in Barcelona in 1927 and earned a doctorate degree in chemical engineering, graduating from the IESE Business School in 1964.
“Beginning in his youth, Mariano Puig stood out for his leadership abilities and a sense for business growth, establishing important ties with the United States, the Caribbean and France,” the company said in a statement.
Over the years, Puig has received highly-esteemed awards such as the Distinguished Family Business Award, Medal of Honour for the Promotion of Business Careers, Gold Medal for Merit in Work and the Kingdom of Spain Award in recognition of his stellar business career, among many other achievements.
He has four sons, including Puig chairman and chief executive officer Marc Puig, and one daughter. He is also survived by his wife, María Guasch.
