Autumn has officially arrived, and the cooler evenings create a need for a headier scent than the lighter notes suited to summer. BD unveils the fragrances fitting for the leaf-strewn season:
Van Cleef & Arpels
‘Exotic woods’ is the central theme to this fragrance by renowned jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels. With notes of iris, myrrh, labdanum, incense and ambergris, the perfume forms a part of the six-part line of luxury fragrances the company crafted in collaboration with some of the world’s top perfumers.
Thierry Mugler Alien Eau Extraordinaire
A modern twist on Mugler’s beloved fragrance Alien, Eau Extraordinaire is a floral fragrance where Tunisian neroli is combined with tea and bergamot. The gentle but exotic Tiare flower is also a part of the ingredients’ list - adding a warmth to the existing notes.
AERIN
The heady AERIN Amber Musk describes itself as “like a soft cozy blanket on a cold snowy night.” Sensual florals (like rose centifolia absolute) and ambers surround and enhance the hero ingredient of musk.
Baldessarini Fragrance
Baldessarini’s latest cologne is based around the spirit of adventure. At the heart of the fragrance is the key (and unusual) note of metal, with added spice provided by patchouli flower, cumin and cloves. Sandalwood, tobacco, orange and mandarin round out the creation.
Oscar de la Renta
Gown god Oscar de la Renta is renowned for his ladylike creations - a sentiment that has translated into his perfume offerings. Live in Love is just as girly as de la Renta’s garments - a floral concoction of lily of the valley and jasmine, weighed down by bergamot and sandalwood.
Roberto Cavalli
Roberto Cavalli’s Nero Assoluto is a continuation of the designer’s penchant for excess. The elegant scent forges both floral and woody notes, sweetened by the incorporation of vanilla. Think orchid accords with the strong woody notes of ebony at its base.
Courreges
Floral and fruity at once is the Courreges Rose de Courreges. Top notes of bamboo, peach and grapefruit ground the sweet entities of rose, violet and cherry blossom. Adding a depth to the perfume are the base notes of lotus, amber and musk.
Guy Laroche
Amber (a favourite of autumnal scents) sits at the heart of Guy Laroche’s Fidji. A self-described sensual and floral bouquet inspired by the islands, the perfume melds amber with sandal, musk and patchouli, on top of iris, jasmine and ylang-ylang.
Jean Patou
Men are covered for Autumnal fragrances with Jean Patou’s cologne. The scent captures both warmth and masculinity with a merging of leather and patchouli, combined with floral bergamot, lavender and spicy tarragon.
Versace’s founder Donatella is no stranger to straight-up sex appeal, with her fragrance Yellow Diamond following a similar mantra. The scent is an explosion of floral, featuring strains of neroli, bergamot, nymphea and freesia, alongside mimosa, pear sorbet and musk.
