Shiseido achieves Japanese first

Shiseido has become the first Japanese company to sign the UN gender equality pledge – an agreement with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), pledging to lead the promotion of gender equality in its home country.

Through their pledge, Shiseido will launch gender education programs and promote the UN’s #HeForShe initiative.

In a statement, Shiseido has said “As women account for 90 percent of Shiseido’s consumers and 80 percent of employees, women’s advancement is an area crucial to diversity and requiring utmost efforts, and the company has been taking active steps to address this.”
