Michael Brown is a man of many talents. He's a contributor at Rescu, a make-up artist and beauty expert on Today Extra, a celebrity make-up artist, presenter, beauty writer, tutorial expert, and a skilled ballet dancer (for real). And now Brown has another trick up his sleeve, with news he is the new grooming expert at The Tailored Man.
To find out more, we chatted to Brown about the new gig, what appealed to him about the role, and his top grooming tips.
Congrats on your new role at thetailoredman.com.au. What will the position involve?
Thank you! My position is grooming expert – giving easy-to-understand grooming tips for the modern man. Men often want the information but do not feel comfortable asking for it, so covering skin maintenance, shaving concerns, hair textures and top fragrances will be my key areas to focus on.
When do you start?
My role will commence shortly, as thetailoredman.com.au is undergoing some exciting changes!
Why appealed to you about working for The Tailored Man?
I have been a fan of @the.tailored.man on Instagram for over a year and met Dalton Graham – founder of The Tailored Man – at the races in Melbourne last November. Dalton has a great sense of achievable style for the modern man and I loved his attitude towards educating men on lifestyle, fitness, fashion, style and especially grooming. So I had to be a part of this fairly new influence into the Australian male – it’s the start of the new age of the modern man.
Will it be a full-time role?
My role will be subject based, with one to two posts a month focusing on expert advice to the site. Dalton’s team are capable of general grooming reviews, but it is so imperative in today’s world to create a platform where the reader can trust the voice presented, and with my experience in the beauty industry, it was a perfect match!
What are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to sharing my expertise to a wide audience of like-minded males, focusing on looking good without spending unnecessary time in the bathroom. Quick, educational, expert tips is where it’s at.
What is your top grooming tip for males?
Just try it, grooming doesn't mean hard work. No matter what age you are, we all can suffer from fatigue! Most males have concerns with shaving and fatigue around the eyes. Invest in your concerns first, then work back from there – no one is saying you have to spend hours in the bathroom, but quick 'pick-me-up' products can do wonders in minutes.
What is your top hair tip for males?
Know your hair type in terms of thickness. This will help determine the right hair styling texture you need [in order] to work with your hair easily. I always had very thin hair, so a dry clay was best to give body and not weigh it down. I recently underwent a hair restoration procedure at Man Cave Sydney, by Martinick Hair. It is the best thing I ever did as now I have not only thicker, new, healthy hair, but a bucketload of confidence knowing I don't have a receding hair line to worry about. Men don't wear make-up and purchase countless accessories to show personality to their style, so their hair is a big part of their 'look'. When that goes, it can be a big self-esteem blow.
