In late 2015 Broadsheet announced its national expansion, confirming digital editions of Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth to its existing Melbourne and Sydney city guides. Now, after months of being live, the site editors have been announced, with Katie Spain, Matt Shea and Max Veenhuyzen appointed to the roles.
Broadsheet Media director and publisher Nick Shelton says of the news: “We’ve searched hard for the right talent to bring Broadsheet’s unique and authentic take on the best of what’s happening across the country. With Katie, Matt, and Max’s extensive experience, we are in a prime position to continue our success in these new states.”
Spain will lead Broadsheet Adelaide after five-and-a-half years at Adelaide Magazine. Shea will take on Broadsheet Brisbane after freelancing for the likes of Sydney Morning Herald, Lonely Planet, The Guardian and Monocle. Veenhuyzen joins Broadsheet Perth, but will also continue to freelance for Australian Gourmet Traveller and Qantas Travel Insider.
Shelton has no doubts the new city editions will prosper: “Sydney and Melbourne established Broadsheet’s strong cultural reputation, drawing one million unique readers a month. However, the thirst for quality editorial at a national level has been apparent for quite some time. Prior to the launch of the new sites, about 10 per cent of the website’s traffic had come from states outside NSW and Victoria.”
