Cosmo’s online team is changing with news that beauty and lifestyle writer Amelia Bowe is departing after three years at the publication. BD recently spoke to the journalist about her next role at HM Communications Group, as well as her side beauty business in brows.
What will your new role entail?
I'll be in HM Communication Group's digital team driving COTY's social media content and helping shape their strategy. So there'll be a lot of snapping, gramming, pinning, tweeting and posting for incredible beauty brands.
Are you sad to be leaving Cosmo?
My departure is bittersweet. I've been at Cosmo since 2013 and I've loved every second of it – starting as editorial coordinator and moving into the digital team was a fantastic progression and I learnt so much during my time. By the same token, the opportunity to work at a great agency like HM with a group like COTY is hugely exciting, and I’m really looking forward to a new challenge.
What has been your career highlight so far?
For the past three years I've been surrounded every single day with extremely talented and passionate people and I think that's been an ongoing highlight. I’ve had some incredible opportunities: from working with the incredible make-up artist Sir John to interviewing lots of celebrities which is always interesting.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
Forming creative and innovative strategies to best engage, educate and inspire people across a range of social channels. The opportunity to work with COTY is something I’m very much looking forward to as well.
Can you tell me about your side business?
I’ve been a beauty therapist since 2009 and have spent the past seven years honing my eyebrow shaping skills having worked in exclusive eyebrow salons. Now I’m focusing on my own eyebrow ventures and all I can say at this stage is watch this space and keep your eyes on my Instagram @amelia_canavan, but I promise I’ll keep you updated.
