Glossier founder, Emily Weiss has taken to Instagram to announce she is stepping down as Glossier's CEO.
The news comes following the cult beauty brand let go of more than 80 employees – a third of its corporate staff – in January 2022 after the company became "distracted" by other projects, Weiss said after the layoffs.
Kyle Leahy (pictured below with Weiss) has been named the new CEO of the business.
"Today I am celebrating my friend and colleague Kyle Leahy, who I’ve decided to make Glossier’s next CEO," Weiss posted to Instagram.
In the announcement Weiss wanted to make clear she is "not going anywhere," and will be stepping into a new role within the business after she settles "into life welcoming this new little heart into existence, soon," shared the beauty mogul, who is expecting her first child in June.
"As Kyle takes the helm day-to-day, I’m humbled and excited to step into the role of executive chairwoman, working closely with Kyle and our board on stewarding Glossier into 2025, 2030 and beyond," said Weiss via a statement posted on Glossier.
"But the thing I will always be most passionate about is delivering value as a founder. With this CEO evolution, I’ll be able to focus more of my time as I did in the earlier days – supporting our brilliant leaders of creative, brand, product and retail, as they take our customer experience innovation to new heights."
Weis also shared news of what's to come for the brand.
"A current labour of love, for me and for all of us: our New York flagship store design... yes, we're coming back to SoHo in early 2023."
