After announcing a massive restructure in June that saw a number of redundancies made, News Limited yesterday revealed the company is set to undergo more job losses with the confirmation it will outsource all sub-editing work.
Following in the footsteps of Fairfax Media, News Limited is set to outsource the copy sub-editing of its regional newspapers to AAP’s Pagemasters.
The changes are expected to affect around 65 positions nationally and will be finalised on October 29. Sub-editing roles at community newspaper titles in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia will be moved to Pagemasters.
The restructure is designed to reduce duplication and wasted effort, driving efficiencies that are essential if we are to adapt to market conditions,” according to editorial director Campbell Reid’s memo to staff.
Other changes that will come into effect include reporting and photography teams being rostered across seven days to produce content that is available for all mastheads. Metro team members will no longer be dedicated to individual mastheads and will be required to develop stories for any publication or platform.
