It’s been a turbulent fortnight for The Australian, who last week saw the departure of Clive Mathieson as editor for a position with Premier Mike Baird. But the national broadsheet is now back to smooth sailing with the announcement of current deputy editor John Lehmann stepping into the senior role.
Lehmann brings years of experience to his new position, having previously been editor-at-large at The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, as well as the final editor-in-chief of The Bulletin before its closure. Lehmann’s career has also included work for titles including The New York Post and The Courier Mail.
Alongside Lehmann’s promotion, national chief of staff Petra Rees will be replacing him in the deputy position.
