bdBLOG: It’s Miranda’s rules on the runway

This week, I met for the first time without being hurried along by frantic organisers of an Australian Fashion Week show. The make-up master was speaking to media on the looks he was creating for last night’s David Jones spring summer 2012 fashion launch, when I asked him what look he would be creating for the star of the show, Miranda Kerr.

If she wants a bit of a smokey eye, we’ll work it. She’ll probably have a strong lip, but it will really depend on how she wants to project herself,” Perdis told me. The David Jones brief is not to take Miranda where she doesn’t want to go. We want people to know that it’s Miranda. Sometimes she wants to push it, sometimes she wants to stay more contoured and natural, but she always does a lip so I think she’ll want to do the lip today as well.”

Even though I’m well aware of Miranda’s superstar status on the runway, I found it quite impressive that she has the power to be exempt from the designated runway look. However Perdis’ prediction of a bold lip was right on the money, with Miranda sporting a soft red-stained lip complete with dewy skin and a pared-back smokey eye. To create Miranda's base, Perdis used Camera Finish powder, The One concealer, and Mosaic Flushing with loose Eye Dust in Starlight to highlight. Miranda's eyes were a mix of two new palettes (a new one out in October) and the brand's Smoky Eye palette, which is out in December. The eyes were lined with a mix of China Doll Gel Eyeliners in Equinox and Copper and Brown Sugar Pencil Liner. To create the lip, Perdis used DeVine Goddess in Aphrodite, which was pressed onto the lips with the new NP Set Tinted Lip Balm in Baja.

In a sign of the times, David Jones this year stepped up their social media coverage of the iconic show, streaming it live via its website, in addition to posting photos continuously on Instagram (@davidjonesstore) and Pinterest, and keeping conversation going via Twitter. The specially designed fashion launch site also features video interviews with some of the star designers of the show, including Josh Goot and Camilla and Marc.

David Jones’ hard work has paid off in my eyes. Not only am I eager to get in store and potentially skip a couple of meals in order to afford one of the beautiful garments on show, but I also have a strong desire to sport a bright lip… Wonder where I got that idea from?
