From arriving at an awards show in an egg to donning a dress made of raw meat, Lady Gaga isn’t afraid of creating a scene or controversy.
In her latest act, the superstar performed her song Hair” live on stage – with a bald head. The 25-year-old sat at a piano covered in hair, sporting a cue-ball look, before putting on a teal wig halfway through the performance.
The new look from Gaga isn’t the first time the songstress has gone to extreme beauty lengths. Celebrity make-up artist Billy Brasfield recalls the time he super-glued hundreds of pearls to Gaga's face for the amfAR New York Gala in 2010.
I was the one who was like, ‘Oh my God, how are we going to get this off?’ and she’s like, ‘I don’t care, just do it!’” Brasfield recalls. It’s very inspiring to work with somebody like that, where she doesn’t take no for an answer.”
In her new film clip for Edge of Glory, the singer is seen sporting a severely cut, two-toned bob. And at the weekend’s 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards, her hairstyle changed from long, aqua-coloured locks to another edgy bob within a matter of hours. It’s enough to give you whiplash, such is the pace at which Gaga switches up her beauty look.
While we all watched as the hoards of girls went crazy over the Pob” following Victoria’s Beckham’s chop, and more recently, an increase in the number of blow-waves following the royal wedding, it’s hard to know whether these theatrical looks will have the same effect in mainstream trends.
According to celebrity hairstylist Brad Ngata, "Although they may be crazy and ‘out there’, Lady Gaga's constantly evolving hairstyles are such a wonderful way for all of us to embrace our creativity. She has shown us that it's ok to be different and to celebrate who you are, albeit in a very individual way! And although she may not have a direct influence on mainstream hairstyles, I’m constantly hearing the new phrase "a bit gaga" whether it's for hair, a shoe or a hat we wouldn't usually go for – so Gaga has certainly influenced society in her own way! I say Bravo!"
Our prediction is that while we may see them on girls on the street, the looks are likely to pop up in slightly diluted forms…teal hair extensions, anyone?
