Kourtney Kardashian is lobbying for cosmetic safety

Kourtney Kardashian appeared before US Congress yesterday to voice her concerns with the lack of regulation in the personal care industry.

Speaking on Capitol Hill, the reality TV star was there to voice her support for stricter makeup laws and increased regulation in the beauty industry, saying: "It would be nice if there were laws to regulate so that the people running these businesses can have some standards of what to use.

“The fact that we have to guess so much, even going into a store to buy anything... you shouldn't walk around aimlessly wondering, 'Is this okay? Is not that okay?' Everybody should have the right to healthy products in personal care."

Kardashian is known for living a clean, organic lifestyle; and admitted that it was the birth of her first son that saw her properly looking into the ingredients in her personal care products.

Further to speaking with Congress, the 39-year-old met with Environmental Working Group president Ken Cook to advocate for the Personal Care Products Safety Act. This act aims to tighten the Food and Drug Administration's control over what goes into cosmetics and currently has the support of cosmetics giants like Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, and Unilever.

Kardashian’s point is that, as The Cut also notes, there haven't been significant changes to current makeup regulations in The States in 80 years. Currently, makeup brands also don’t have to report the ingredients they use with the FDA.
