She’s renowned for being bootylicious, but these days there’s a little less booty when it comes to Beyoncé. Shaking her real thang with husband Jay-Z at the Grammy Awards last week, the Single Ladies singer showed off her staggering 30 kilogram weight loss in a revealing black number.
The new skinny look has been taking shape over the last six months and is reportedly due to a mixture of a restricted kilojoule intake and vegan challenges. On the strict 3556 kilojoule diet, Beyoncé snacks on six small meals a day with no carbohydrates.
It seems the singer is also back on the vegan bandwagon. In December last year, Beyoncé and Jay-Z completed a three-week vegan diet challenge – and it looks like the two are doing the challenge again. On January 30, Beyoncé posted a picture of the 22 Days vegan protein bar with the caption #22daysvegan” on Instagram. A vegan diet allows followers to only eat plant-based foods. The couple decided to try out a vegan lifestyle after getting advice from their personal trainer Marco Borges.
I ate a very low-calorie diet. I stayed away from red meat and ate a lot of fish, and replaced pasta and rice with quinoa. I always have breakfast, say, scrambled egg whites, a vegetable smoothie, or whole-grain cereal with low-fat milk. For lunch and dinner, I eat a lot of fish and vegetables. And throughout the day, I try to stay hydrated,” says Beyoncé of her weight loss.
It wasn’t just diet that helped shift the kilograms. Queen Bey also increased her running and dancing sessions and hit the gym using power moves”. This technique involves incorporating joints into workouts, such as working shoulders, hips, elbows and knees.
I was very aware of the fact that I was showing my body. I was 195lbs when I gave birth, and lost 65lbs. I worked crazily to get my body back. I wanted to show that you can have a child and you can work hard and you can get your body back,” says Beyoncé. Queen Bey has since gone on to lose a further 5lbs (2 kgs).
