Tomorrow is International Women’s Day – a day of celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The first International Women’s Day in 1909 saw thousands of women march through the streets of New York City for better pay, shorter work hours and the right to vote. Fast forward to today and the occasion has become an opportunity for organisations to support ongoing changes.
The beauty industry is a big supporter of International Women’s Day, and here are the brands who are actively showing their solidarity with the cause:
L'OCCITANE
L'OCCITANE in Australia is an active supporter of Dress For Success, an initiative designed to empower and improve the employability of women around Australia. This year, the purchase of a full-size Shea Butter Hand Cream will see a Nourishing Duo will be given to a woman in need.
Further, L'OCCITANE together with Dress For Success is inviting you to donate an hour of your pay to set a woman on her path to success, employment and financial independence.
Elizabeth Arden
In 1912, as women in New York marched for the right to vote, entrepreneur Elizabeth Arden helped boost morale by giving red lipstick to suffragettes. Today, the brand carries on her legacy through the March On Campaign – an initiative that sees 100 per cent of the proceeds of a limited edition signature lipstick (this year it is in partnership with Reese Witherspoon) go to UN Women.
Rimmel
In celebration of International Women's Day, Rimmel London Australia have created giftable ift cards to spread a messaege of empowerment and encouragement to another female in your life. These cards display an uplifting message on the front and contain a Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour; and $1 from every card purchased will be donated to Dress for Success.
Avon
Although Avon is withdrawing from the Australia and New Zealand markets, the company has helped lots of women through its Beauty With a Purpose campaign.
Benefit
Benefit’s Bold is Beautiful Project sees the brand donate proceeds from every brow wax in the month of May to charities that improve the lives of women & girls.
In 1976, Co-Founders Jean & Jane Ford introduced a totally new “feel-good” approach to beauty. Beyond long lashes & lipstick, the sisters served up beauty advice that encouraged women to feel strong, confident and bold. The Bold Is Beautiful Project is taking that philosophy around the world by partnering with charities that foster women's empowerment through education, access to wellness and financial self-sufficiency.
Lancôme
French beauty giant Lancôme has announced a new initiative that will see it fight illiteracy among women across Morocco, Guatemala and Thailand.
Dubbed "Write Her Future," the initiative sees the brand partner with CARE, an NGO operating in 94 countries that works to combat extreme poverty. A number of celebrity ambassadors will be supporting the campaign via their social media channels, including Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong'o, Lily Collins, Isabella Rossellini and Taylor Hill.
Revlon
Revlon recently launched its “Live Boldly” campaign – a campaign that seeks to inspire women to express themselves with passion, optimism, strength and style.
endota spa
With International Women's Day just around the corner, endota spa took time to reflect on its CEO Melanie Gleeson's journey. Mel's story began in 2000 when she pursued her dream to give back and inspire others to connect with themselves. Now, we endota spa are the largest day spa network in Australia with over 100 spas across the country, and are active supporters of International Women’s Day. This year they are offering women the opportunity to take time out and treat themselves with a wellness gift pack.
