In the wake of the 23 United States school shootings that have happened in 2018 alone, the survivors of these tragedies are taking matters into their own hands.
From today, Americans nationwide are wearing an orange lipstick called ‘Fired Up’, produced by The Lipstick Lobby in collaboration with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
The Lipstick Lobby offers a simple way to protest by buying lipsticks that support organisations for change; and The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence are affiliated American nonprofit organisations that advocate for gun control and against gun violence.
The bright orange shade (the same colour as gun violence awareness) will see 100 per cent of net profits of its sale go towards the Brady Center. Speaking on the campaign, co-president of the Brady Campaign Kris Brown says: "They say it's important to put your money where your mouth is, and this is perhaps the best and most notable example of that.”
The campaign imagery to promote ‘Fired Up’ gathered mass shooting survivors from Parkland, Sandy Hook, Columbine, and the Pulse Nightclub all in one place to make a statement about gun violence.
"At a time when nearly every day we turn on the television we are faced with the horrific images of a community rattled by gun violence, making the decision to stand up with the Brady Center was a no-brainer," said founder of The Lipstick Lobby Davida Hall.
"While many are using their feet to march and their voices to be heard, we wanted to lend our lips because we're ready to join the fight for our lives."
