Coles goes avant garde with Sunsilk

The Aisle Avant Garde by Sunsilk and Coles event was a collaboration to stage an in-store fashion show using exclusively designed pieces by up-and-coming student fashion designers.

The show, held last night at Coles’ Waterloo store, attracted over 100 attendees and included 12 designs modelled through the aisles of the open and functioning supermarket, culminating in one student winning a $3000 student grant for the best design (story continues below).

Together with the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at the University of Technology Sydney, Sunsilk and Coles selected the top 12 student Fashion and Textile designers to create a directional piece interpreting the logo and/or colours of the Sunsilk Co-Creations range. The one off pieces are to be shown within the supermarket, giving shoppers the chance to be a part of this unique event.

The team behind the show includes some well known names in Australian fashion such as chief stylist Michael Azzollini, renowned hair director and winner of Australian Sessions Stylist of the year Sarah Laidlaw, and make-up director Natasha Severino. Additionally, the judges included two experts in fashion and beauty: Paula Joye of Lifestyle’d and Yasemin Turker, editor of Primped.com.au. Louise Van De Vorst and Annika Kaban were among the models at the event.

The evening saw fourth-year UTS Design student Catlin Davies-Forsyth awarded a $3000 grant from Sunsilk and Coles. Caitlin was selected by Paula and Yasemin due to her use of colour, inspired by the Sunsilk Damage Reconstruction Range, and flowing fabric.
