Social media star Cartia Mallan talks her big move

Whether you like or loathe its hustle, Sydney is the undisputed business capital of the country. The city is a hotbed of innovation, ideas and entrepreneurial spirit, which is why rising social media star Cartia Mallan has decided to make it her new home. The Brisbane native, with an Instagram following of 280,000 followers, recently spoke to BD about her plans for the harbour city.

What has inspired the move to Sydney?
I had planned to move to Sydney a year ago, but I wanted to have some chill time in Byron seeing as I only graduated school at the end of last year. The move became necessary when I realised I was flying to Sydney nearly every second week for meetings/shoots etc. I also recently signed with IMG Talent and they are based here so it made sense to make the move.

What are the key benefits of a Sydney base over Byron Bay?
Work-wise… everything is in Sydney! All of the offices, management, auditions and so many amazing opportunities. [There are] many more creatives to collaborate with and also the faster pace of the city is extremely motivating and inspiring for me.

What career goals do you hope to achieve in Sydney?
Throughout school I studied theatre and on-screen acting for seven years and that was always my main focus before I began blogging. Being in Sydney now allows me to get back into this. I’m hoping to branch into that while also getting behind the camera more with creating short films/photographing. I’m also really passionate about writing and interviewing so I’m trying to strengthen and develop all of these areas!

What can followers expect from your social media platforms in the coming months?
Everything and anything! I’m in a full work mode grind right now preparing for the new year! Lots more fashion, advice videos, short films, writing pieces, interviews with other creatives/bloggers/musicians. I have so many new ideas and I can’t wait to begin this new journey!
