Rising style star Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper Girl is no stranger to Instagram or its social media cousins. The beauty and fashion blogger has proven to be highly successful across all of the various platforms, making her the ideal candidate to hand out tips on curating lust-worthy profiles on the digital landscape.
Here, we take a look at some of Warne’s top Instagram tips.
Plan your shots in advance
“I do plan it out, because I don’t always have enough time, but I definitely search for new shots constantly. So for me, I’m always looking for a lot of colour, a lot of natural landscapes, something that I guess you haven’t really seen before.”
Composition is key
“Taking a beautiful photo all comes down to the composition and lighting for me. Take the time to compose the photo, adjust the lighting on your screen by tapping the focus point to different points of the screen, and then do a subtle post-edit in an app to make the photo really striking.”
Her favourite apps
“I have three. I use Snapseed first, then I use VSCO Cam, then I use Afterlight. So every photo I post has been edited three times. It takes me about five, six minutes but I run it through three apps to get the certain look that I want. It depends on the lighting, but for me it’s about being vibrant and colorful and ethereal.”
Her favourite fellow Instagrammers
“I love Moda Operandi, because I think they do a good job of curating up-and-coming designers and providing a good platform for them. Usually on their Instagram, there’s people popping up that I’m like, ‘Who is that? Incredible. Never heard of them before’. Shopbop is also very good.”
Maintaining your integrity
“Bloggers can get paid to Instagram about a bag of cookies but I would never work with a brand that I didn’t feel was aligned with the aesthetic and values of Gary Pepper. After all, the industry is just too small to have worked with everyone within a few years.”
