It's no secret that we Australians love to watch videos on our mobiles. Recent figures from Nielsen show that we enjoy it so much, we've consumed more than seven hours of pre-recorded film and live broadcasts on our phones over the last couple of months.
It's a movement that social media juggernaut Twitter Australia has cottoned on to as evidenced in its content strategy plans for next year. It looks as though the platform will be the place to watch video with newly appointed managing director Suzy Nicoletti revealing they intend to focus heavily on live stream in 2017. Recent success with a live stream of this year's Melbourne Cup is what filled Nicoletti with encouragement as the platform welcomed five advertisers on board for the event specifically.
The plan is to monetise these live streams with both local and global opportunities, as well as show events that go beyond just sport such as news, politics and entertainment.
Live notifications are another way Twitter plans to keep users engaged and informed following a successful partnership with Transport NSW in which they delivered transport delay notifications to users in real time. This live conversation is something that Nicoletti believes will bring real value to users going forward as well as keep them coming back to the platform again and again.
