VICE’s women’s network welcomes editor

The women’s platform has proved its worth in recent years, with female-focused publications burgeoning online. VICE’s Broadly is one such enterprise, with Rebecca Kamm just announced as the editor of Australia and New Zealand.

Kamm moves to Broadly from The Wireless where she was senior digital features producer. Before then she was the editor of New Zealand’s Sunday Magazine and a columnist for the New Zealand Herald.

Kamm tells Mumbrella of her plans for the site: “I would want to have a big portfolio of original reporting looking at stories that otherwise would have gone under the radar. Being a woman isn’t a niche, it is a significant portion of the population.

“Intelligent opinion is important but women are so well-served with that type of content in Australia and New Zealand, what we see is a space to tell women stories in a way that is documenting them really close up,” she continues.

The site is not specifically targeted to Australasia, rather the local team will contribute to the existing US edition. The female-focused outlet will focus on contemporary society and topics that affect the modern woman – ranging through video and editorial. “It will be original reporting and documentary film through a female lens and about women in Australia and New Zealand and that will enhance the pre-existing site. We will be part of the US site at least to begin with,” says Kamm.
