Silkwood Medical has launched Australia’s first virtual plastic surgery with a free iPhone and web application that allows patients to use their own image to predict and perfect their preferred look for facial plastic surgery.
Similar to in-surgery imagery programs offered during surgery consultations, the easy to use FaceTouchUp application and Silkwood Medical website helps customers see what they will look like post-surgery.
"Web or iPhone app patient-controlled imaging is a great advance for several reasons,” says leading facial plastic surgeon Dr Warwick Nettle.
One, the patient controls the imaging and is able to show the surgeon exactly the changes they have in mind.
Two, the patient can sit with the imaging and consider more fully if making the planned changes are right for them, and three, the planned changes are not proposed by the surgeon and lost in the blur of the consultation.”
As a consequence, patient-controlled imaging should lead to better outcomes in plastic surgery and increased patient satisfaction."
A benefit of the iPhone application is that clients can save the results and then bring them to their next consultation to show their surgeon what they are after.
Other functions of the iPhone application include more than 300 before and after photos from real surgeries performed by Dr Nettle and Dr Benjamin Norris at Silkwood Medical and interviews with other patients and doctors.
