Thanks to revolutionary sunscreen formulas, a beach-loving culture and growing consumer awareness of the damage caused by UV rays, the sun care market in Australia experienced 6 per cent current value growth* last year, with this upward trend not going anywhere.
A main factor behind this growing market is education: “In a recent La Roche-Posay commissioned global study on sun protection attitudes and habits, we discovered that Australia is actually the most well-educated country in regards to sun protection and skin cancer. Now, 93 per cent of parents put sunscreen on their children - this is substantially higher that the rest of the world,” explains La Roche-Posay assistant product manager - sun, hand and body, Stephen Di Marzo.
Another key reason driving growth in the sun care market is the improvement in formulas themselves. “Brands have worked tirelessly to improve the texture and feel of their sunscreen. This has meant that a SPF50 sunscreen no longer needs to feel greasy and thick. With ultra-light textures and non-greasy high protection oils, Australians can enjoy the sun safely without sun protection becoming a chore,” says Di Marzo.
