Hollywood smile secrets

Hollywood is an industry based on glitz and glamour. The film capital’s rich and famous are adored around the globe, with their lives and ensembles inducing envy and even obsession. But perhaps a celebrity’s most revered accessory isn’t their designer handbag or couture dress, but their Hollywood smile.

While it’s easy to believe that film stars are born naturally beautiful, most (if not all) have had a little helping hand. And many of these take place in the dentist’s chair. Dental enhancements, like veneers, hide flaws and craft beautifully shaped, perfectly white sets of teeth to show off.

Traditionally, veneers are applied laboriously, and accompanied by a hefty price tag that suits film stars’ salaries. These are exactly the problems Ultradent Products have attempted to combat with the launch of Edelweiss, a uniquely engineered composite veneer.

The brand’s veneers are a solution for those seeking a lower-cost alternative to custom lab creations, making a Hollywood smile an affordable option for all. Since the veneer is crafted specifically to avoid compromising the tooth structure, it allows for easy (and quick) application.

Country manager for the brand Ashleigh Speer explains the product concept: “Edelweiss is a ready-made veneer that a dentist can apply to your teeth in one appointment. They come in several sizes and can be shaped by the dentist to look exactly the way the patient wants,” she explains.“Edelweiss will typically cost you less than half of what composite veneers and probably one third of what porcelain veneers cost. Additionally, it can be done in one office visit.”

In terms of application, dentists can place veneers in the one office visit. Traditional veneers require the dentist to cut away at a lot of the natural tooth, whereas Edelweiss does not cut the tooth at all. “Your dentist will first use a size guide to select the correct size, then shape the veneer if necessary to fit your teeth perfectly,” explains Speer. “They will then use a bonding material and some composite (the material used for fillings) to adhere the veneer to your tooth. This process incorporates LED light.”

For Speer, the product quite literally outshines its competition. “Edelweiss is the only laser-sintered veneer on the market, which means that it keeps its lustre far longer than traditional composite veneers.”

For those who have experienced veneers, the results are life-changing. Take Okker Anker, for example. After dealing with teeth issues his whole life, including breakage and rotting that had become increasingly worse over the years, he had Edelweiss veneers applied over all of his teeth. Anker was ecstatic with the results, saying: “No, I didn’t think it was going to look like this; it looks so much better than what I thought. I never imagined this for myself.”

Voicing the effect of a Hollywood smile has on self-esteem levels, Anker admitted his were elevated immediately. He says: “Personally, I think it’s going to have a huge impact on my self-image because I was shy of speaking in front of a lot of people or smiling. Since last night, I just can’t stop smiling. I think with time I will get a lot more confidence and it will be a lot easier work-wise to approach different people, as well as in my social life.”

The inventor of Edelweiss, Stephan Lampl, is not surprised by Anker’s results, saying the brand sets out to give everyone a dazzling smile. He explains: “The whole procedure is about being minimally invasive and working with the patient directly. We want to offer a great smile and a treatment solution that is very affordable at the same time.”
