While milk-based skincare has been around for years (and eons in the case of Cleopatra’s milk baths), a new type of milk is gaining traction – and it’s shaping up to be one of skincare’s best kept secrets.
Among the industry’s most hyped-up ingredients, deer milk emerges as the latest gentle skin enhancer for a more nourished, rejuvenated and youthful complexion.
kōtia is the first brand to offer a skincare range made with pure deer milk, which is lovingly collected from the pristine pastures of Queenstown.
How was it discovered?
The unexpected skin benefits of deer milk became clear in 2012 when Otago farmers discovered how it transformed the appearance of weathered hands. A milk maid found her work-worn hands became softer and less aged, and her nails stronger and less prone to breakage, after only a few weeks of milking deer.
What are the benefits?
Deer milk has similar benefits to other types of milk, in that it is rich in antioxidants, nutrients and anti-inflammatory agents. But comparably the deer kind has the highest total protein content of any milk for human consumption, according to scientists, while also being a rich source of calcium, selenium, and zinc.
100% New Zealand deer milk is specifically rich in retinol (vitamin A), folic acid (vitamin B9), antioxidants and nutrients (vitamin E) and anti-inflammatory agents (vitamin D3), which helps prevent premature ageing.
The gentle and nourishing skincare range contains protein-rich deer milk combined with other emollients, to provide intense hydration and anti-ageing benefits.
