A group of researchers in Europe are claiming they’ve discovered a cure for grey hair. Published in the journal for Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, the research suggests grey hair can be reversed with the help of a topical treatment.
The research is based on findings that people who start to go grey do so because they develop massive epidermal oxidative stress” through the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicle. This leads the hair to bleach itself from the inside out, causing hair to turn grey. The researchers believe their findings show that levels of hydrogen peroxide can be altered with a proprietary treatment using a topically applied formula.
According to Dr Gerald Weissmann, editor-in-chief of the FASEB journal, For generations, numerous remedies have been concocted to hide grey hair. But now, for the first time, an actual treatment that gets to the root of the problem has been developed.”
The researchers also hope their findings can be applied to the treatment of certain skin conditions such as vitiligo, which causes loss of pigmentation.
