Hair trends for 2012

Grace, Blaze, Celeste and Roxy have been predicted as the four big trends for hair in 2012 by Wella Professionals global creative directors Eugene Souleiman (care and styling) and Josh Wood (colour) and celebrity stylists Andy LeCompte and colourist Aura Friedman.

The four emerging hair trends use research from 15 of the leading independent trend forecasting experts and agencies from around the globe and have already been used as style inspiration for the Spring ’12 fashion shows by Wella’s creative team.

Grace: The Modern Muse is the glamorous look without even trying. It is hair that looks effortlessly elegant and has an exceptionally premium finish with a shine and fluid texture. "Grace's luxurious look is the perfect statement for the red carpet. We'll see celebrities with more pristine, polished styles and glamorous, bouncy blowouts,” says LeCompte.

Blaze: The Femme Fatale is all about overt sensuality. High-gloss hair with graphic styles and daring shapes add drama to this look. "I wanted the style to feel like a '30s felt cloche hat or be reminiscent of a burlesque dancer from the '20s. The whole trend is about the girl feeling like an entertainer," says Souleiman.

Celeste: The Free Spirit is simplistic and sleeked to perfection. Style and colour work together to produce a clear style and translucent jewel-toned palette. This look is universally flattering and very wearable for the everyday girl. Women on the streets are sporting a few subtle tones in their hair for a modern, sophisticated take as the pastel trend has evolved,” says Friedman.

Roxy: The Scene Stealer is bold and attention grabbing hair that has a raw, textured look. Colour is also important – with a cool red palette that makes a statement while remaining sophisticated. "There is a real shift to a cool red tone, rather than warm in this trend. There are also bursts of violet coming through to give depth," says Wood.
