bdBLOG: Summer shock

Every spring my family takes a holiday to Northern Queensland, and every year I’m given an early shock into bikini season”.

Pasty skin, untoned belly and a last-minute laser appointment, yep, it doesn’t matter how much warning I get, I’m still never fully prepared for hitting the beach.

But it’s refreshing to discover that I’m not alone when it comes to hiding behind a cleverly positioned sarong when hit by the first rays of the spring/summer season.

According to research conducted by the consumer review website TrueLocal, 80 per cent of Australians are not happy with the way they look coming into summer and 40 per cent are embarrassed by their pale skin tone.

With a further 53 per cent admitting they neglect personal grooming during winter and 60 per cent exercising less during the colder months, it seems winter really can be a body beautiful killer.

People are in a frenzy to get summer ready. The start of spring last year saw a 45 per cent increase in tanning salon searches and a 20 per cent increase in hair removal searches on TrueLocal as Australians attempted to de-fuzz and mask their ‘wintery white’ skin,” reveals TrueLocal community manager Shae Marlow.

All I can say is, I’m glad Mum and Dad always give me a kick start into the season at a location where they’re the only ones I know.

Does summer send you into a beautifying frenzy? Do you have a different beauty routine in summer to winter?
