SunSense is doing its bits to fight skin cancer in Australia, offering free skincare checks on the brand’s UV Photobus, which will tour the country’s east coast in coming weeks.
SunSensibility campaign ambassador Catriona Rowntree officially unveiled the UV Photobus at Bondi Beach last week.
The team of specialists on the Photobus use the latest technology to take a UV photograph of participants’ skin, which highlights existing sunspots, pigmentation, freckles and moles. The results are then assessed to determine a UV percentile score, which is ranked out of 100 and compared with the participant’s gender group, age and skin type.
The day of testing last week revealed Bondi's average Sunsensibility score was 61 out of a possible 100. According to Ego Pharmaceuticals’ Dr Kerryn Greive, "This score reveals that as a community, Bondi seems to have good sun safety awareness and practive healthy skin protection habits."
Although our skin has its own natural defence mechanism, it is not enough to prevent the sun’s rays from causing skin damage,” says Greive. The UV camera technology we have on the Photobus will reveal the damage the sun may have already done.”
The UV Photobus is currently touring the east coast of Australia, with other locations including Cronulla, Manly, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Surfer’s Paradise, Brisbane, Orange, Geelong and Melbourne, among others.
