Leigh Campbell is thrilled to announce she has been appointed executive editor of Mamamia. The experienced writer and editor – who was formally head of lifestyle at HuffPost – commenced her new role at the start of the year. BD chatted to Campbell to find out more about the categories she'll be covering and what she's most looking forward to.
Congratulations on your new role as executive editor with Mamamia. Can you tell us a bit about what your role will entail?
There's lots of exciting aspects to the role but most relevant to the BeautyDirectory reader is that I will be leading a team to overhaul Mamamia's lifestyle offering. That includes beauty, fashion, food, home, travel, weddings – all the fun stuff.
What aspects are you most looking forward to?
Working on the Mamamia brand and with the Mamamia team. The brand has incredible reach – it's the biggest women's media network in the country. There are 75 million content views across Mamamia's platforms every month.
Will you continue to produce beauty and health stories for Mamamia?
Yep. In addition to the management and strategy aspects of the role I'll also be creating content. I'm not sure I'd ever take a role in which I couldn't – It's my favourite part.
Should beauty/health PRs continue to contact you with news, invitations or story pitches? What’s the best way for them to get in touch?
Sure thing. Email is always best. My new address is Leigh.Campbell@mamamia.com.au
You took a big leap from print (Cosmopolitan) to digital (HuffPost) in 2015. What were the most significant lessons you learnt during this transition?
How to use a CMS for one! But when it comes down to it, creating content people want to watch, read (or even listen to) is essentially the same, no matter if it's in print or on a screen. Sure, the days are busier and there's more of a sense of urgency, but it's exciting to be able to be reactive and to see what kind of stuff women want to consume. Stats don't lie.
