Condé Nast has become the first major magazine publisher to launch a brand specifically aimed at the LGBTQ community.
The digital platform called Them was spearheaded by Teen Vogue digital editorial director Phillip Picardi, who in a statement announced: “There is a cultural revolution happening that is — as always — spearheaded by young people who believe in fighting for equality, and we want to create a space that’s reflective of this moment.”
The publication will cover everything from pop culture and fashion through to politics. Backed by the likes of Burberry, Google, and US car-sharing service Lyft, the Them will go live on October 26.
Editor-in-chief of Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast, Anna Wintour, will be directing the publication. In a statement, Wintour explained the mission behind Them:“We’ve been reimagining our titles and creating new ones to more broadly reflect our culture today, and Them is a perfect example of how we’re thinking differently about our audiences.
"Phil has brilliant insight into how people are engaging with each other through the content they read and watch, and he has once again identified important and influential voices and stories to bring to the forefront.”
