INSTYLE and Styleicons, Australia’s leading hairdressing industry magazine of 35 years and its online counterpart, is looking for a dynamic writer, hair and beauty lover and editorial aficionado to join the team. This role will be for 2.5 days a week with a combination of working from the office and home, as well as some event attendance. The role offers potential scope for some travel and expansion.
The brand's specific B2B hair salon audience relies on INSTYLE and Styleicons for hairdressing news, events, launches and inspiration, to which the candidate will contribute across print, online and social channels. INSTYLE is published every two months and Styleicons delivers newsletters twice weekly, communicating with a loyal audience and constantly evolving in today’s modern media landscape.
This year, the publication will also launch Hair Festival, a vital hair salon event taking place over June 12 and 13 at Sydney’s Carriageworks and filling a necessary gap in the hair industry events sphere. The candidate will also contribute to this new venture as part of the team.
The role
An eye for style and detail is required working across regular magazine sections from street style to product shoots in both hair and beauty, as relevant to Australia’s hair salon industry.
The candidate will be required to contribute content to both print and online and regularly report on events and new product launches. Social media skills and interest is also preferable to keep various audiences consistently up to date when necessary and experience in beauty media offers a strong advantage.
The ideal candidate offers:
- The ability to work fast and to a deadline without compromising the quality of your work
- Exceptional writing skills, grammar and spelling
- Ideally 2+ years’ experience in an editorial role
- A keen interest in social media content creation including Instagram stories, reels, and video content
- An ability to work both within a team and with autonomy, to fit into a dynamic working environment
- An interest in the hair and beauty landscape
