Can you tell me a bit about your career?
After working as a beauty editor for Reed Pacific Media’s independent title Just Be magazine for almost two years, I moved over to Pacific Magazines, where I worked in the colourful world of youth magazines as deputy editor of Total Girl. After a fun and fast-paced year there tween-speaking myself into oblivion, I took a vacay from going cray over 1D and went freelance, where I had the joy of working on titles like CLEO, DOLLY, Women’s Health & Fitness and beautyheaven.com.au. After two years of talking to myself in my home office, I decided it was time to head back to the real world of publishing, and here I am!
What attracted you to the position at Professional Beauty?
Professional Beauty magazine is a title I’ve long admired for its shrewd mix of investigative journalism and all things beauty. I’m passionate about writing engaging, well-researched content and I’ve always been just obsessive enough about beauty that I’ve been known to spend my last ten dollars on lipstick instead of dinner.
Have you always been interested in the beauty media world?
There are few things that can outdo a great beauty feature for me. There’ll always be serious and shocking world events to be covered, but not much competes with the transformative power of beauty products and technologies to inspire and empower. Little else has stood the test of time against recessions, world wars and tragedies quite like the beauty industry, which continues to give hope in times that seem hopeless. That’s a pretty good drawing card for me!
What will your role of beauty and online editor involve?
As online editor, I’ll be managing all online content across professionalbeauty.com.au, which covers professional/salon brand events and launches, beauty industry news and salon insights. In my role as beauty editor for the Professional Beauty magazine, I’ll be writing all the latest beauty news and coordinating photo shoots for the magazine’s extensive product pages.
What do you hope to achieve in the role?
My main goal is to create exciting, investigative stories that engage beauty professionals and bring them the latest and most cutting-edge research and developments in the professional beauty industry. My passion is - and has always been - creating great content, and that’s something I hope to continue to deliver to Professional Beauty.
