bdBLOG: Multi-tasking beauty

I am a massive fan of multi-tasking – eating lunch is great for catching up on emails, brushing teeth is occasion for flicking through a magazine and I find the traffic lights on my morning commute are the perfect time for sorting out mascara, eyeliner, blush, lipstick and even nail polish application.

While I’m not sure if it comes down to being time poor or time wise, I’ve discovered I’m not the only one doing their beauty application on the run. Phew! A new study has found that 67 per cent of British women apply their make-up on their morning commute, with a further 22 per cent using this time to touch up their lipstick or mascara, according to the Daily Mail.

Not surprising, 75 per cent of women reported having had a cosmetic mishap while on public transport (think common problems such as sudden stops, packed trains and mirror/lipstick/handbag juggling acts gone wrong). My worst traffic beauty application accident would probably have to be the time I dropped my nail lacquer halfway through my car-manicure. Yep, my car seat and floors got a makeover of red paint. Not so pretty.

While I’m not applying my make-up in the public arena (simply because I am rarely found on this mode of transport), I’m certainly not adverse to it being done. The same can definitely not be said for the author of Ultimate Guide to Party Planning and Etiquette Liz Brewer, who says, A quick dab of powder or discretely reapplying lipstick is acceptable; however, to put on all your makeup in public is as bad as eating in the street. Some things should be kept behind closed doors.” Whoops. That probably means I should stop eating my toast as I walk to the car in the morning as well… damn etiquette!

Are you a beauty application multi-tasker? Do you think there’s anything wrong with applying your make-up in public?
