MBFWA 2012: Akira

Who: Akira

When: 11am, May 4. The Box, Overseas Passenger Terminal

Inspiration: The romance of well-loved garments, losing oneself in the feel of a fabric. Eastern traditions that celebrate a harmony of the inner journey.

Make-up: Napoleon Perdis for

Make-up style:

"This look is all about timeless romance and angelic grace. There are three looks: for the first one features a lot of white, so we're trying to push that angelic aesthetic, so skin is sheer and translucent with highlight on the cheekbone. We're really buffing it into the skin so it looks like the skin itself, not a highlighter sitting on top. The look features a natural brow, a good coat of mascara, then there's that pop of glitter on the inner corner of the eye, which is our Loose Dust and Disco Glitter, which is built up with our Cake Eyeliner Sealer, which is a bonding agent and makes the loose glitter more pasty, to give it more hold. Look 2 is for block colour and is more focused on the lip - there's that same focus on translucent skin, natural brow and mascara, but within this we have three different lip colours. The lip has a velvety texture, so we've used the DeVine Goddess Lipsticks first, and then we're setting that with one of our Color Discs to get that velvety, matte finish. We're bringing more colour into the third look - the pop of colour on the eye is meant to be a surprise when she blinks more so than a full-colour 80s eye. It's colourful but it's still quite soft and feminine. We're not taking it any higher than the crease, but we're extending it slightly. So you can still see it but it's not overpowering," says Kate Squires for Napoleon Perdis.

"There are so many fun, beautiful element at play here. The glitter eye is just divine, soft and feminine, perfect not just for a bride but for any day you want to feel like a goddess. And then there's the amazing aquamarine, which provides and fab, summery take on the traditional cat's eye. Take your pick!" says Napoleon Perdis.

Hair: Jon Pulitano for Redken

Hair style: "There's three looks - one for the bridal section, one colour-block section and one print section. With the bridal look, we're keeping it really ethereal - it's kind of a twisted sort of look. For that look, we've used Rootful to get that texture in the hair, then we just twisted it and started pinning. We also used the Powder Grip and Powder Fresh to give it the texture it needs. Then for colour blocking, we're doing something a little stronger. It's a high ponytail tucked into a sleek bun. For that look we're using Fashion Work 12 to get the ponytail up, and then from there we're finishing with some Redken 23 for hold and shine. For the print section, we've created a low ponytail and looped it around to give it a slightly oriental look. Again, we used Fashion Work 12 to give it that hold," says Jon Pulitano for Redken.
