MBFWA 2012: Alice McCall

Who: Alice McCall

When: 10am, May 2. The Tent, Overseas Passenger Terminal

Inspiration: "For Alice McCall, Budapest’s famous antiquated stain glass windows were a starting point for her her Summer 12/13 collection, entitled Babooshka. From there, Alice took a trip into Hungarian folk art, finding inspiration in needlepoint, blossoming embroideries, delicate laves and Russian babushka dolls."

Hair: Sophie Roberts for ghd

Hair style: "The Alice McCall girl today is reminiscent of a modern day Russian Babushka doll. Make-up took inspiration with the lashes and the lips and we just wanted to create something that was very soft. We blow-dried the hair out with lots of ghd Volume Foam with the new ghd Air blowdryer and just pumped up as much volume and texture in the hair. Then it's two simple plaits with a centre part and then twist it up on top of the head. Very simple, very feminine. We've got some flowers as well that we might personalise each girl in the line-up with," says Sophie Roberts.

Make-up: Nigel Stanislaus for Maybelline New York

Make-up style: "It's all about the Babushka doll, so you want that really wide-eyed look. We're starting off with really dewy skin, focusing on a triangle in the middle of the face. We buff in the foundation and then use the Color Tattoo in Too Cool and put it on top of the foundation to give it a glow. With the eyes, the brows have to be knocked back a little bit because we want the look to be all about the eyes. We're putting a hint of blue almost hitting the brows in a circle, almost like a setting sun, and then continuing the look at the bottom. It's soft and blue. The blush is on the apples of the cheek, a little bit on the bridge of the nose. With the lips, we're going to buff it out and conceal it and then put ravishing rouge on the middle like a geisha. Mascara on the top and bottom and then in the middle we have two coats so you get that extra hit. We have a little disc that we cut in half and put right in the corner of the eyes, so they flicker like a butterfly when the models walk down the catwalk," says Nigel Stanislaus.
