Who: Gail Sorronda
When: 11am, April 30. The Box, Overseas Passenger Terminal
Inspiration: "The beautiful gothic. Twisted and slightly darke, she's caught in a style moment that perfectly blends 1920s nostalgia with a mod nod to the 1960s."
Hair: Jon Pulitano for Redken
Hair style: "The theme is 'Oh My Goth', so it's kind of a gothic, theatrical sort of theme. So what we're creating is a sort of sphere, wrapped around the head. The hair is wrapped around the contour of the head to create a cap effect, made of hair. Once we've finished, it will have a plastic-y, futuristic feel. We're just using the Redken Forceful 23 to spray each section down around the crown, and then when we're wrapping the hair around the head we're using Fashion Works 12, which is a softer hairspray so we can brush it around. And then we're finishing off with some Shine Flash to finish the look. It's almost like a really beautiful piece of glass in the end," says Jon Pulitano for Redken.
Make-up: Napoleon Perdis for
Make-up style:
"I love the abstract elements of this look and how it makes the weird wearable. The combination of the deep grape, slightly clow-ish lip and elegant lash works perfectly with the porcelain-doll textured skin. It's as surreal as it is fab," says Napoleon Perdis.
"The inspirations that were going through Gail's head was almost like a nostalgic 1920s black and white silent film. It's almost like this woman is a female Charlie Chaplin. But anyone who knows Gail knows that everything she does is quite quirky. So it's almost like it's quirky and dark, but not on a deep, depressing side. Her girls are still to look beautiful but with a dark, romantic, quirky edge. The lip is one of the big features of the look - what we're using is actually a combination of three products to get the right colour. What we've used is our Equinox Black Eyeliner, which gives depth to the look. We've also added in a hint of purple pencil, and our Aphrodite Lip Stick too, so we've ended up with a deep eggplant colour. The lips are supposed to look like they're smirking - it's not meant to be joker-style or clownish. It's meant to say 'Yes I'm cheeky but I'm pretty and I look like a porcelain doll too'. To balance the lips we've used a heavy lash. We definitely wanted a lash to make the eyes look doll-like, so one of the important things for us was where we placed on the eyelid. We don't want it across too far because that gives a sex kitten kind of kick. We wanted it in the centre of the lash so that the length is through the centre." says Rebecca Prior for Napoleon Perdis.
