MBFWA 2012: Gary Bigeni

Who: Gary Bigeni

When: 12.00pm, April 30. The Theatre, Overseas Passengers Terminal.

Inspiration: "The vibe was bold and fresh as Gary Bigeni played on layers of personality to create a show that was impeccably constructed to illustrate the divergence between a strong, confident facade and unexpectedly fragile interior."

Hair: Anthony Nader for KMS California

Hair style: "We really went with the detail of the clothing, which is very graphic and quite masculine. The prints are quite bold, so what we wanted to achieve was something where the hair reflected the graphic feel of the garment. We did a really deep side part, low ponytail. We did it deep parted so it was more directional and in turn that keeps it quite sexy as well. I used KMS ADDVOLUME Root and Body Lift - I sprayed that all over the hair from roots to ends then brushed that out. What that does is give the hair grittiness which really pumps up fine hair. We then dried the ADDVOLUME Root and Body Lift into the hair to create the foundation, then put in the deep side part and then sprayed it with a dry wax which was quite matte. We wanted the hair to be pulled away from the face so it highlights the face and elongates the neck," says Anthony Nader.

Make-up: Kate Squires for Napoleon

Make-up style: "The girl for this one is strong, independent and confident and that's all coming out in a strong, punchy fire engine red lip. It's not about a seductive red lip, it's more about having that strength and empowerment. The rest of the face is kept quite bare. We've used our Off Duty tinted moisturiser just to add a light veil over the skin and to get that dewiness and freshness. Really subtle contours with taupe under the cheekbone and through the socket, so it looks like a natural stain on the skin, and chocolate brown mascara to warm up the eyes a little bit. We're literally just combing through the brows to keep that intensity in the strong punchy red lip," says Kate Squires.

"This is the sort of red-hot beauty statement that I love. The lip statement is so strong and empowering yet it's kept modern and fresh with simple skin and next-to-no other definition. Beauty note: with all the attention on the lips, they need to be in top condition. Prep them pre-lipstick with Auto Pilot Lip Service," says Napoleon Perdis.
