Following in the footsteps of Diana Ross and Raquel Welch, actress Brooke Shields has become the latest face of the M.A.C Cosmetics Icon collection, a series of iconic design collaborations.
The actress bumped into senior vice president and creative director of (M.A.C NZ) James Gager at her local coffee house, who later approached her about the collaboration. After we talked a few times, he approached me about the next Icon line and asked if I would consider designing it with them,” Shields told WWD.
I’m a perpetual student — I treat everything like homework,” Shields adds. The minute [James] planted the seed, I went to work on my [inspiration] book. I was smearing lipsticks and making smudges of products, tearing out ideas. I brought it to the first meeting, and the surprising thing is that they cared.”
Shields was so involved in the process that she designed two product ranges for two cosmetic looks, one being a natural, fresh look and the second being a night-time vamp look. M.A.C moved forward with both, creating the largest Icon collection to date that will make its debut in the US in early October and worldwide later in the month.
