There have been some job losses at New Idea magazine following news the publishing company’s contract with NZME will not be renewed.
The magazine, owned by Australian company Pacific Magazines, indicated it would continue publication. There were 25 staff affected by the loss of the publishing contract, but it is still unclear how many of them are related to New Idea.
Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union (EPMU) print and media industrial officer Paul Tolich told Stuff that union members working at New Idea had been made redundant, but would not comment on how many.
"We don't have a large number of members there. The union did not have a collective agreement for New Idea staff; I've just known about the redundancies because there was proper notice given," says Tolich.
Pacific Magazines spokeswoman Danielle Veldre confirmed the company was working through the operational implications of resuming publishing New Idea.
