Alibaba’s Tmall will be expanding their beauty offerings in 2019. To keep up with China’s appetite for beauty products, the online retailer anticipates domestic and international brands to open 1000 virtual stores on the ecommerce website this year.
At its annual Tmall Beauty Awards on Monday, the company announced that several international brands have already signed on to open stores on the platform including Tom Ford, Glamglow, Maybelline New York, Kiehl’s, Oriental Therapy, Cosme, d-program, Primera, and Barnangen.
Tmall currently acts as a go-to search engine for the cosmetics industry in China, with many major brands choosing to open a Tmall shop over investing in their own website.
According to Tmall, beauty product sales jumped 60% last year.
“As China continues its consumption upgrade, more and more people from different age groups and geographic locations are willing to spend on high-quality beauty products. We are looking forward to working with more brands to address the opportunity,” said Jet Jing, President of Tmall.
