bdTrial: Surviving summer

Summer (and the accompanying relentless heat) is upon us, so the BD team enlist some help from the beauty cupboard.

There will never be a day that my hair will not be slightly mussed. As I am lucky enough to live in a city that idolises beach beauty, I am going to run with it. Partly out of laziness, and partly out of an undying love for Kate Moss, I am a true devotee to hair that looks as though you have spent the past hour frolicking about in the salt spray. To achieve the look without taking a dip is easy - grab yourself a bottle of Joico Hair Shake. Spray the liquid-to-powder texturizer all over locks, scrunch with your fingers, and get ready to hit the boardroom looking like you’ve come straight from a detour at Tamarama. - Sarah

Remember in high school drama, if someone was playing an elderly character they’d pack their hair full of talcum powder to make it look grey? Well, that’s what my head looks like when I use dry shampoo. No matter how well I work it into my roots, the spray tends to leave behind white particles and I end up dulling my dark strands. As someone who only likes to wash her hair twice a week, this is pretty darn frustrating - especially in summer! Lucky for me, label.m’s dry shampoo for brunettes has solved my greasy-hair woes. The spray goes on dark, leaving no awkward white spots and the matte finish disguises all traces of summer oiliness. Two thumbs up from this lazy brunette! - Anna

Surviving Sydney’s sweltering summer is made easy with refreshed and renewed skin, so philosophy’s microdelivery overnight anti-aging peel couldn’t have landed more impeccably into my skincare regimen. The leave-on peel solution is formulated with alpha/beta hydroxy acid to resurface the skin overnight with a tingly-feeling upon application, while the night gel helps improve the appearance of skin firmness and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and pores, completely absorbing into the skin within seconds. After one use of the treatment, I was told my skin was glowing, and after another use, I noticed a dramatic increase in my skin’s softness – the micro-exfoliation was certainly doing its thing. After two weeks of using the peel, my skin felt fresh, rejuvenated and even. Hats off to you, philosophy! - Ally

Sisley Paris
After this week reading about Kylie Jenner setting her make-up with a translucent powder, I decided to raid our beauty cabinet and see if I could find something similar to trial. I've never used a face powder before, but with the name "Transparent Loose Face Powder" sounding pretty similar to what Kylie was using - I figured Sisley Paris' powder was the perfect product to help me venture into this new territory. And now I can see the appeal. Enhancing my complexion, giving my skin a flawless silky finish, and helping my foundation to set, translucent powders truly are a great addition to any make-up routine. The Sisley Paris Transparent Loose Face Powder is especially beautiful thanks to its super soft texture (due to the use of calendula extract) and not giving a mask effect, so my skin still looks natural. A gorgeous product. - Yelena

I have been cursed with dry skin since my late teens, which is definitely becoming more troublesome as I get older. I am always on the hunt for products that will give my skin that extra hit of hydration while also keeping it moist throughout the day. I was very happy to trial the Nutrimetics Energise Vital Toning Mist and I was not disappointed. I sprayed it on after cleansing my face and my skin felt instantly refreshed and soft. Thanks to its formula of beetroot extract, taro leaf extract and Japanese pagoda flower extract, my skin remained conditioned and energised all day long. - Laura
