It’s safe to say, most of us are beauty obsessed. We regularly apply a million and one different serums to combat ageing, pigmentation and other skin concerns. And now, we’re adding another step to our routine: Gua Sha.
It’s been raved about across the globe from beauty gurus, make up artists and even cosmetic surgeons. It feels like a facial that you can do yourself all in the space of your own home.
Gua Sha’s are typically made from rose quartz, amethyst, jade or other crystals and is used to gently massage the face and skin. This technique helps to manually drain stagnant lymph that causes inflammation and puffiness around the face. Gua Sha has been around for centuries. It was used as a traditional Chinese medicine tool to scrape against the body to help treat muscle pain and certain illnesses. Now, in 2023, Gua Sha has evolved its way into modern cosmetic practices.
The addition of Gua Sha in your skin care routine will help improve blood circulation, redness, skin elasticity, wrinkles and muscle relaxation. Not only that, but it also helps balance out your connection between your mind and body.
How to use:
Start by finding a high quality Gua Sha or face roller. Here are some of our favs you can use:
Rose Quartz Gua Sha
Dermascuplt Gua Sha Stone
Beauty Flash facial roller
Cooling Facial Roller
Starting at the neck using the longest side of the Gua Sha and massage downwards towards your chest. Perform this a few times before moving up to the jaw. Using the V-like side of the Gua Sha, massage along the jaw a few times before moving to the long flat side and massage it against your cheeks.
For your eyes place the Gua Sha directly below and smooth it outwards. By moving the skin around in this manner, it wakes up the muscles in your face, causing less tension in the muscles while sculpting and energising the skin. We recommend cleansing your skin first then applying serum, oils and moisturisers before performing this step so your skin can absorb all the nutrients. For the best results use this technique at least three times a week.
Our beauty tip:
Whilst most crystal Gua Sha’s and rollers will stay cool naturally we recommend keeping yours chilled. It helps tighten pores and wakes your face up after a late night.
