Today marks Men’s Grooming Day, and to pay tribute to this momentous day for male groomers everywhere, VS Sassoon for Men has revealed some surprising trends in the male grooming space.
While the 90s are definitely seeing a revival (skinny brows, anyone?) the VSforMen survey found around the topic of male grooming found that 69 per cent of men voted that they would like to see 90s facial hair – specifically the goatee – make a comeback.
Females and millennials were reported to be the biggest supporters of the goatee revival with 74 per cent and 75 per cent respectively indicating that they would like to see it return in all its glory.
While a goatee is nice, 16 per cent of respondents said that they wanted to see frosted tips come back into fashion; and 15 per cent even want mullets to come back into rotation.
If you’re nervous about goatee-wielding Shannon Nole-esque men running around, fear not as VSforMen style guy Jules Tognini says: “It’s the return of the goatee, but not as we know it. Today’s look is edgier and rougher. Think Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Kurt Cobain circa the 90s. Slightly disconnected and more lived in, this style is a winner as it can be altered to flatter just about any face shape.
“Like in fashion, grooming trends are cyclical but when we see a particular style resurface it’s never the exact same. At the moment in fashion its denim but we’re not just doing double denim, we’re doing triple – jeans, jacket, shirt, the works! With hair it’s the mullet, with facial hair it’s the goatee.
