According to an article by Beauty Packaging, a new study has discovered the biggest beauty trends of 2022 so far.
The study – conducted by Hey Discount – was able to gather these trends by analysing the number of TikTok views, Instagram hashtags and Google searches.
It found that beauty trends have been dominated by skincare and experimental makeup looks. Moving away from harsh scented products, the top skincare trends included retinol, SPF, ceramides and glass skin. Popular makeup trends such as faux freckles, graphic liner and glitter lips were also very popular, ranking in the top 20.
Below are some of the most popular beauty trends of 2022.
1. Retinol
With 2022 being all about skincare, it’s no surprise retinol took the top spot. According to the study, there were 1.2 billion TikTok views under the hashtag #retinol and 635,767 Instagram posts with the same tag.
While retinol works differently for everyone, it has long been known as the ‘it girl’ of the skincare world. This is because it works to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while improving collagen production, blemishes and the correction of pigmentation issues.

2. Graphic liner
Say goodbye to basic winged liner because eyeliner trends from the ‘60s and ‘80s are making a comeback.
In fact, there were one billion TikTok views for the hashtag #graphicliner and 655,325 Instagram posts with the same tag.
Graphic liner is great for beginners, as it focuses on creativity and unique designs over a perfectly symmetrical cat-eye look. It has also been seen on the faces of major celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Barbie Ferreira.

3. Gua sha

Hey Discount found there were 976.9 million TikTok views for the hashtag #Guasha and 502,093 Instagram posts using the same tag.
